In a sudden turn of events at Monday's McPherson County Commission meeting, Public Works Director Tom Kramer was terminated from his position, effective immediately.
The decision came after a brief five-minute executive session to discuss non-elected personnel. The executive session included Mr. Kramer, County Administrator Rick Witte, and the three commissioners.
Upon returning from the closed session, Commissioners made the motion "effective immediately that we would terminate Mr. Tom Kramer from the public works director Department." The motion was seconded and passed unanimously with all commissioners voting in favor.
Prior to the executive session, Kramer had presented information to the commission about a request for qualifications (RFQ) for engineering consultants regarding a bridge project on Arapaho Rd. west of 8th Avenue. The commission had approved hiring Kirkham Michael for the project based on Kramer's recommendation.
No reasons were publicly stated for Kramer's termination during the open portion of the meeting. The county has not yet announced plans for filling the now-vacant Public Works Director position.
